Choosing the Right Colour for Your Boat or Caravan Graphics — and Why It's Harder Than It Looks
Why Choosing the Right Colour Is Harder Than It Looks
Picking a colour for your boat, caravan or motorhome graphics sounds straightforward, but it's one of the questions we get asked about more than almost anything else. The short answer is: what you see on screen won't match the vinyl. It never does — not perfectly — and understanding why can save you a frustrating surprise when your order arrives.
Why Screens Can't Show You the Real Colour
Every monitor, phone, and tablet displays colour differently. Brightness settings, screen age, ambient light — all of it shifts what you see. A royal blue on your laptop might look navy on your phone. Neither is wrong; they're just screens. The vinyl itself is a physical material with a surface sheen, which changes how colour reads in daylight versus shade. That's why we always say the chart is a guide, not a guarantee.
If colour accuracy matters to you — matching an existing stripe, coordinating with your van's bodywork — order a physical sample first. They cost £2.04 and could save you a much bigger headache.
What Colours Do We Stock?
Our standard range covers the colours most commonly needed for caravan and motorhome graphics. All are gloss finish unless you ask for something different.
Whites and neutrals: White, Black, Anthracite, Light Grey, Dark Grey, Silver.
Blues: Pale Blue, Olympic Blue, Marina Blue, Ultramarine, Deep Navy.
Greens: Aqua Green, Lime Green, Apple Green, Mid Green, Forest Green.
Reds and pinks: Mid Red (Tomato), Cherry Red, Burgundy, Hot Pink (Magenta), Pink.
Purples: Mauve (Plum), Lilac, Violet (Purple).
Yellows and oranges: Lemon Yellow, Medium Yellow, Tangerine, Orange.
Warm tones: Almond (Cream), Dark Brown, Gold.
Specialist and Special-Effect Finishes
Beyond the standard gloss range, we also offer a number of finishes that work well for custom designs and bespoke lettering.
Matt White and Matt Black are available on request. Matt vinyl has a flat, non-reflective finish — popular for a subtle, understated look that doesn't catch the light.
Paint Mask / Stencil Film is used where you want a traditional painted-lettering effect rather than a pre-cut decal. We can cut the stencil and you apply the paint yourself, or ask us about the process.
Removable Wall-Art Vinyl is a lighter-tack white vinyl, ideal for interior use or temporary displays — it peels away cleanly without leaving residue.
Frosted Window Etch Film mimics the look of acid-etched glass. Good for privacy panels or decorative window work on caravans and motorhomes.
Glitter Effect Colours
We stock glitter vinyl in Black, Red, Teal, Green, Blue, Silver, and Gold. Stock on glitter colours can be limited — Pink Glitter in particular comes and goes — so if you're after something specific, it's worth checking with us before ordering.
Mirror Chrome Effect
Mirror Chrome and Mirror Gold are the most eye-catching finishes we offer. They behave differently from standard vinyl — the reflective surface amplifies any imperfections in application, so we'd recommend these for experienced fitters or for smaller lettering where the fit is easier to control.
A Note on Shadow and Outline Colours
If you're ordering text or graphics with a block shadow or outline, be aware that the underlying colour affects how the top colour reads. White on black, for example, can appear slightly off-white or grey once applied, because the dark base bleeds through at the edges under certain lighting. If you're unsure how your chosen combination will look, just ask us before you order.
Order a Sample
Physical vinyl samples are available for £2.04. It's the only reliable way to check a colour before committing to a full order, and we'd always recommend it if you're matching something specific.
You can view our full visual colour chart, including swatches, on the Colour Guide page. For a physical sample, order one here.
